Hi all, just looking for advice on merits of engine oil "flush" for my 6V92. Am I trying to love my motors too much or is this practice worthwhile?

I've got no idea. I'm happy enough to just drain, change filters and put in Mobil Delvac 40 but if I can do better for the old birdscarers I will.

If it's a good thing I'll have a go but I'm concerned it may be snake oil and potentially damaging. I trust the wisdom of this forum way more than any other "web" adviser.

Thanks for any response, Bill.

Waste of time and money. Now if the oil was contaminated by fuel or water it's called for. If you want to be proactive, get the oil analysed between changes. Then you'll have an indication of trouble before it bites you.

Oil samples are never a bad idea unless some of the numbers keep you up at night; just how much chromium is too much anyway? Flushing the oil can't hurt anything but your wallet. Either way, the oil will still be as black as ever the second you hit the starter. Probably the best balance you can achieve is using HD filters and reducing the hours between changes.

Proactive might also mean going after cooling system corrosion in both loops, especially in the 92 series. Coolant, seawater and high temps will kill you quicker.
