Has anyone on the forum removed the engine driven aircompressor from a 71 series engine and if so can you pm me to discuss it. Thank, John

I did John. I’ll call to discuss when I’m free. I was tracking down an air leak. ( found it)

I removed mine years ago. Just plug the oil and water lines and get a blank off plate for the transmission hole.

Same here. My mechanic said they can fail and ruin the engine. I found the plate at a Detroit graveyard.

Thanks guys, I am considering using that drive for the new stabilizers pump, do you see any reason that would not work?

I thought the block off plate was a normal GM fuel pump block off plate ?? Sure someone knows the answer...............Pat

Fuel pump is on the front of the engine this on the gear drives at the back

Is there a gasket on those block off plates?

This is where to put your pump.
Pending the size of the option, you can drive 4 devices on the back of a DD V block.
Only 2 on the back of an in-line block.

The genuine DD drive adapter is made of a light metal and will split if the option locks up.
DD thought about this along with the Blower shaft that will break if a blower locks up (or an arm inserted)..

Some NON OEM vendors made some kind of a safety connect also. I have also found adapters that had no safety built in. You have to trust who assembled your option.

I would wonder if your tech really knows about DDC engines.

The mighty GM city bus ran on 671s with the Bendix air compressor on the back of the block; rev up, rev down, idle, rev up, rev down, idle, all day long. You can not find anything more dependable that this.

I installed an air compressor on the back of my port 12V71 for my air horns and air push windshield wiper motors.
Been there for over 15 years now. Never a worry.
AND, I don't need a gen-set when I get rained on.

I have already converted to electric wipers no need for compressor anymore. Thought it was a good time to remove it as we are in the process of installing stabilizers. John
