Based on my prop shaft gland work, I'm interested in how engine alignment is achieved on a 1978 53MY with Allison M20 gears and 2" prop shafts. There's nothing on this in the owners manual.

Thanks,

Not 100% sure I understand your question, but I had an engine alignment problem on my 58 YF that I insisted they correct before I would complete the sale.

They measured whether there was an alignment probolm by decoupling the trans output shaft from the prop shaft. Tehn with a feeler guage would determine whether the distance between the flanges was the same all the way around. If it was not, you can rotate the prop shaft to see if the engine is out, of if a shaft is bent.

If simply an engine alignment issue (not a bent shaft or deformed coupling facing as I had - which took a while to diagnose) then it was a matter of altering how the engine sat by loosening the engine mounts, jacking it into position, and putting shims in strategically to make sure it was in alignment.

Best regards - Murray
