Hatteras Model
53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
Got a question for all you electronics wizards on HOF. A friend is getting all new electronics and I am getting his old (4yrs) C120 raymarine and his raymarine autopilot. No problem on the install of the chartplotter with the exception of will it talk with my old JRC 4kw oper radar. I would like to get rid of the old CRT screen and just overlay the radar on the C120. Also the autopilot is just the control head and I am pretty sure it will not drive or match up with the old Robertson. Any suggestions or ideas?

No specific answers, but I know that in general, Ray does not play well with others.

Not to give you false hope... actually it probably will because it's all 1980s vintage stuff. But I was on a boat that had a Raytheon RADAR and the display was an exact copy of my JRC fishfinder. Same housing, same buttons, just different labels. Who's making for who?

Actually the raymarine equipment is on a 2006 model so you are probably right!

Seems like you should be able to do it. Reading the brochure quickly cause I gotta get back to work. The brochure says the C120 will work with NEMA 2000, if some of your older stuff is using NEMA 0183, you can get an adapter to convert 0183 to 2000. Lets us know how it works out.

Raytheon sold JRC radars and other equip from the mid 70's until they started selling their own design low power raster scan gear. The story we were given was JRC built defense equip for Japan under license from mother Raytheon and part of the deal was rights to the US and Europe for selected products for the struggling Raytheon Marine line. Same products sold in Latin America and Asia had the JRC logo. Designed and built by JRC in Japan and universally superior equipment for the time.

I'd doubt that a crt display radar will interface with the newer 120 raster scan displays... I had a company in the early 90's that used Raytheon (JRC) radars and colorized them to use on standard def TV and we had a hell of a time getting them to synch. High Def raster scan seems like a reach to me.

The good news is those old crt JRC radars are hard to beat for longevity and performance, but I'd guess you're gonna be using the old display.

Yup, I know it was a stretch to get the radar to convert. Although your right the JRC works great because of space I would like to get rid of the CRT.

I talked to the installer about the auto pilot and he said I would need a new pump so the wiring would match up, I'm not sure what pump I have but isn't a pump a pump? Imput to push or pull? Is the rudder sensors all the same, just figure out what goes to what, it shouldn't be rocket science. As far as the radar I'm surE it's not compatible with the c120. The good news for me and not my friend is all the new digital equipment he purchased is NOT compatible with his current radar. He has to get the new high def antenna so maybe I can get his 4' open w/pedestal which will just plug and play with the c120.

Just a short update for those that are interested. Installed the GPS and the c120 and they are working great, also have the software update coming. Relocated the garmin where the autopilot was and installed the control head for the raymarine autopilot. After some research the Robertson/Simrad pump I currently have will work just fine with the Raymarine, it's just a simple 12v reversible two wire pump. I also believe the rudder sensor will also work. The only thing that won't play nice is the fluxgate compass I currently have, bidding on one now on eBay.
