Hatteras Model
53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
NEMA signal kept going in and out, thought it would be an easy fix, not so much. Spent most of the day sorting wires and making it right. Problem is I have a JRC radar, Furuno digital sounder, two VHF's and a Garmin plotter that have all different color coded wires. I wonder if one garmin gps is capable of powering five different pieces of electronics?

Also attached a pic from last summer when the grandkids were here, yes I took them tubing behind my boat at 17knts, they had a ball.

If you have the manuals to the various brands you can look up what signals are on each color. Then connect via signal name. Typically red and black are dc power with red being positive.

I doubt very much that the garmin will run very many other units, maybe one or two. Trying to run multiple units off a single source can give you the problem you are having.

NMEA 0183 is peer to peer. NMEA 2000 is networked. The backbones needs power but most of the devices provide for their power and do not depend on the network.

Thanks for adding that information, I was thing NEMA 0183 only.

Well i read up on my Garmin Gps and after checking on a couple of sites it should not be a problem running four, but its a strech. After about five hours of work reviewing all the manuals and making a dedicated panel for the wiring its all working. Other than blk and red its clear that electronics manufacters have NO set standard for color coding. I ended up drawing out a diagram on paper while researching manuals. Garmin uses White for its 0183 + in, but 0183 - is all different. While I have two VHF's, a sounder and chart plotter all working I did not hook up the radar. The radar is hooked up with the fluxgate compass which gives heading and distance and bearing to an object.

Chris...consider this. You have had the boat in storage all winter. Those connectors build up a bit of corrosion that adds resistance. This can drive everything nuts. Just remove and re-connect all connectors. Do it several times. I also spray them with WD 40. If everything worked last fall before haulout, I think this is your problem.
