Anybody ever heard of/used this? It's apparently an excellent solvent/cleaner that I ran across on a gun maintenance forum. It's made up of equal parts acetone, kerosene, mineral spirits and transmission fluid. Allegedly it's an excellent solvent that also leaves a protective coating and it works far better than any of the individual components - sort of a synergy effect.

Makes me think a bit of MMO but I don't think MMO has those components. Then again, it might. It's not called Mystery Oil for nothing! ;)

Don't know that one exactly, but I have noticed other cleaners with acetone base which is a cleaner/solvent and which evaporates quickly plus other related solvents which also evaporate..methly ethyle keytone (maybe I forget) in your combination, looks like kerosene would linger a while before evaporating, leaving tranny fluid as a permanent coating.

What's the liquid used to come in old fire extinguishers...can't think of the name.... was also an excellent cleaner...now banned I think.

PB blaster might have similar stuff...CRC and WD 40 have no ingredients listed; CRC is ok for rubber so I doubt it has acetone....I suspect acetone would act to disperse water..like gas line antifreeze....which is alcohol based...like beer...oops that's not quite right.

oh then there adhesive removers with slightly different ingredients, no lubrication of course...

CARBON TETRACHLORIDE rebel

Yeah, Carbon Tet was used for all sorts of cleaning and other stuff. My first experience with it was as a 9 year old with a stamp album. If you treated stamps with CT you could see the watermark which was useful for cataloging and such. I got spanked (yeah, parents had the cajones to do that back then) for spilling some on the dining room table which removed the finish in that spot! ;)

Fun Facts:

WD-40 never patented their formula because after 7 years it would be available to the general public to copy. Basically the company was confident that noone could duplicate it. Cool.
