  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I am hauling my 53 MY next week for shaft seal dripping problrm. The previous owner had installed south eastern foundries lip seal, and the starboard side is leaking. After reading some posts on Sam’s Marine I came to the conclusion that the Duramax shaft seal carries with it dual safety measures. I called the company for a quote and was quoted in the mid-500 + shipping. I asked if I need to put any spares on the shaft and the guy said there is absolutely no need to do that since there are no rooms for failure on these seals. My question is for whoever previously installed Duramax shaft seal is that do you need the shaft to be dead center in the Stern tube for the seal to work? Anyone with personal experience with the Duramax please give us your comments. Also, anyone knows who sell the Duramax in the state of Florida? Thank you

Mine are not dead center. 7 years with no problems.

Great, thanks for the feedback.

Did you go with the adapter that needs your own clamps and hose? Or the adapter that goes directly on the stern tube?
