First time I have ever heard DuPont recommend waxing Imron. The Imron on our boat (resprayed in 1992) has never been waxed and it constantly gets "your paint looks brand new" comments.

THe product sheets for Imron used to specifically state that waxing it would result in a duller finish due to the wax coating. Obviously, if they are now recommending wax, something has changed in the paint OR the marketing department figured out that they could make more money if they encouraged folks to wax Imron (using DuPont wax products...) ;)

My 1972 43' has the original paint (Imron) and I and the previous owner have only used a polish (no wax) and it still gets the "just repainted it?" or "just wheeled out?" comments all the time! so what's up??

Geez... people always ask me why I painted mine with flat white; until yesterday that is.

I have found that one of the polymer polishes, in my case Rejex, works far better than wax. Lasts longer, doesn't yellow and very easy to clean as not much sticks to it. If I use soap at all it is a very mild solution of something like YachtBrite.

When we were cruising full time, we anchored out and lived on a mooring for months at a time so the boat might several go weeks without much more than a fresh water squirt-down from the boat's system. I have a small Spot Free filter/softener that I run all incoming water through if possible, and I think that helps too. Here's a picture of the boat in Westport Harbor, MA where it had been on a mooring for 3 months and hadn't been thoroughly washed in over 5 months since being brought up from Baltimore, up and down the Hudson, etc etc. You can still see the water reflected in the hull near the bow.

"Soap and water and a quality boat wax." was the reply... Should I ask for more clarification?

I wax my 43 every two years. It always looks like new.
