Has anyone used this product on new Afromosia veneer. I have made up new salon side panels with new veneer and now need to finish them prior to installing. I'm trying te get as close a match as possible to the rest of the paneling in the boat.

I've purchased the teak oil that Sam's sells as a match for the Dupont 704 that was used in my 1973 boat. I would appreciate any advice regarding application techniques, etc. from those who have used this product. Also, should I bleach the veneer before finishing.

Thanks

Don't bleach it. It will come out lighter than your current veneer even without bleaching. I have not used the new product, but the original 704C looks too light after 3 or 4 coats. It does darken with age though.

Moved my post from the duplicate thread to here:

I had a custom TV cabinet made for our 53, using the original afromosia veneer. I finished it with a couple of coats of Minwax red Mahogany stain followed with several coats of minwax tung oil. It exactly matches the oem wood appearance and it is very easy to use. I use the tung oil with a dollop of the red stain to "restore" all the interior wood. Again, easy to use and an match. The TV is inside the cabinet and raises vertically via remote.

It's simple to rub on with a rag. Two not very good pics below will give you an idea, first pic is after one coat of stain - lighting makes some areas look more colored. Third shows TV. Two pics are a bit dark but useable...

Looks great. Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try it without bleaching. By the way, did you apply with a brush or with a rag?

I brushed on every coat, but I wiped the last coat with a rag after applying so that it wouldn't look too shiny.
