  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
My boat has flowscans (thanks previous owner!) so I’ve never had to use the boat’s fuel gauges. The fuel polishing guys are here to clean up the mess from my failed port fuel cooler and get the salt water out of the tank, and can’t get to the tank from the deck fills, I guess it’s not a straight shot. They need to go through wherever the gauges go in. I found one under the hatch in the hallway between the engine rooms that I think is for the mid tank. Where’s the other one? They want to check both tanks. I can’t find it.

Different boat but my top of the tank access points are in the companion way floor abeam the mid stateroom and are about 12" apart inline from one another. I would guess if you have fore and aft tanks the top plate should be close to each other inline as well. Silly question, do you have any schematics?

On our 53, the polisher recently accessed ours from the 2 access points Sadey describes. 1 is in the one you reference. the other is just behind the door that separates the 2 aft staterooms from the engine companionway. it is the same type of access between the VIP/guest berth and head. They are relatively close together, and 12 inches may be correct.
They pull the gauge and run their hoses there.

Thank you guys. We pulled up the carpet behind the door to the two aft staterooms like you said, and it was right there. The previous owner had put wall-to-wall carpet down there over the hatch, so you couldn't tell. Probably figured with flowscans you'd never need to get to it, but obviously that turned out to be a bad bet. I need to get somebody to come re-stretch and tack the carpet now, but at least between them sucking the water out and polishing the fuel, and a new fuel cooler and set of injectors on the engine that was running off that tank, the boat is running properly again. Thank you so much for the info and the quick response.

I've been on the receiving end of help here so many times it was nice to return the favor for once. Glad she's on the mend!

What this forum does best, and thank you both, folks.
