Hatteras Model
53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
First of all, I know there is a Miami Boat Show thread, but it has been dead since Jan 20 and I am afraid if I post there, nobody will be looking and I won't get an answer.
This is my first attendance as a Hatt owner.
Well not exactly.
I was there last year but I still had confused feelings after being a small boat, outboard owner for many years so I spent my time at the convention center.
I have been looking at the MBShow web site but I can't find Hatteras.

Questions are:
Where should I go?
I would be delighted to have the chance to visit some boats, not new ones, I mean well used boats and be allowed to see engine rooms etc to get ideas of how things are done.
I would be honored to meet some of you guys but I don't know if it is proper to just "get there" or I should be invited first.
And, oh yes..when I say I, I really mean we.
The Commander in Chief is comming along.

I won't be there but if you dare Call Randy 865-617-6212.

Holly cow...what do you mean if I dare? I am scared enough to meet you pros so don't freak me out please....

Randy is a good guy. Look up his thread on "maiden voyage from hell" His forum name is freebird.

Ok,...I will dare. God help me...I read the Maiden Voyage from Hell and he must be pissed off like hell. Hope he doesn't shoot me if I call him.
On the other hand I understand he has 12 71N's and so do I, so we may have a common cause here...

It has been rumored that a bottle of Goose juice will calm the savage beast.

Is that Goose beer or Grey Goose?

Hatteras will be located at the brokerage show on Collins Ave.

We -meaning tha Admiral (Kathy) and I will be there too with our 53MY from CHicago. No we didn't just cruise down for the show......we're doing the Great Loop Route and I planned on being in Miami then.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have the same general questions:
When is the best day to go, if it matters?
Just buy tickets online or at the door?
Any other Hatt Forum members planning on being there?
How about meeting for dinner one evening (incl Angela and Pascal, both of whom I'd love to meet?
Any hints on things to see or not to miss?

I plan on staying at Turnberry Isle marina (Aventura). Any better suggestions from locals? We'll be there 18 days so Kathy can fly home for a week to visit her mother in Dallas.

A few points....

The thread will fire up again shortly I'm sure, as we get closer to the event. There will surely be a list of phone numbers for contacts to get together.

If you're looking to see some vintage iron, we're based down there. Ang hasn't put the word out yet, but we've been talking about having a cocktail hour on Sanctuary one evening for anyone willing. There's a good restaraunt on the marina property that could server as the "next stop" if we all want to get together to watch the 'Bird get kicked out of a reputable establishment.

The Miami Boat Show (an NMMA event) and the Brokerage show are technically different events, that happen to be held at the same time. Hatteras displays at the brokerage show as it's a more likely place to find buyers of larger boats that can fit in the convention center.

The boat show at the convention center is where you'll find all of the smaller boats, equipment and accessory vendors, so you don't want to miss it, but the Brokerage show is where all the "big boats" are. Both are a "must see" which is why it's such a hard show to cover in just a day....or perhaps even two.

I've got to check the other thread to see if a phone list was started there, but will start one if not. As a Hatt owner, and a member of this forum, I doubt you'll find yourself without company. Staying out of trouble, well, that might be another thing.....

The Brokerage Show is a mix of new and used, has all the big boats including the Hatteras display. It is located in the waterway just to the west of Collins Avenue. It starts across the street from the Eden Rock Hotel at the north end and goes as far as the eye can see to the south. Admission is free, no tickets, just walk in. The other Boat Show venues, both land and water, require tickets. I can't comment on those areas as I have never attended. Everything that I want to see is right there on Collins.

When is the boat show? I have a daughter down there that wants me to come see her new car. Sounds like a dual opportunity.... :D Rick

Rule #1. There is one "Captain" of the boat
Rule #2. Promoting one's better half to the rank of Admiral is not advised, since Admirals can then pass judgement upon said Captains seamanship and decision making abilities, especially when it comes to cost of operation of the company "vessel".
Rule #3. Rank has to be earned, apprentice seaman start with the status of:
A. Boat Slave, religated to duties such as washing and buffing vessel to high state of readiness and maintains a bristol finish. Fetches supplies from shore and ensures that the Captain's Ale mug is sufficiently maintained so that Captain's mood is of a good nature.
B. Galley Slave. Prepares Captain's and crew's meals in order that they are able to conduct required duties and to maintain good morale.
C. 1st Mate. Follows Captain's orders and directives, locates quality shoreside accomodations and drinking establishments. Knows how to handle lines and stands watch while Captain is occupied with important things.
Rule #4. If you have any guestions always refer to Rule #1.

Doug,
We'll be there. I don't know which day yet as we are driving from Naples so any one of the days would be fine. If there is a planned forum member "get-together" please post it and we will try to attend on that day. I look forward to meeting some of you and as Ed said, I'm sure we'll have a list of phone numbers to make some arrangements.
My question will be where to park?

BTW, it is okay to refer to the first mate as the Admiral as long as she does not know what priviledges are associated with that title.:p

Hmmm.
Sounds like the 1st Mate (aka Admiral) gives you a lot of latitude, allowing you to post such scandalous statements...
