  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
After about 2 hours of crusing at about 1200 RPM my Drive heat light and alarm came on. I
continued to my dock at 800RPM for about 15 minutes with the alarm light on my starboard engine
panel still on.. The engine temp remained below 180. The oil pressure remained normal.
The yacht is a 1985 HAT Motoryacht ED. A day later I started the engine and the same alarm
came on immediately. I suspect a bad sensor. Does the Drive alarm detect heat in the transmission? Where
is it located on my 6V92TA DD engine?

I found the switch drive oil temp device in the hose connected to the transmission oil pump. I finally found the replacement
at Sams marine. Steve there told me it was a closed switch, open on fault.. Part no.90423. I am now $95 poorer, the new switch works great
and my knowledge of the 1985 vintage Hatteras with its complexities has marched upward! Now if
I could only figure out why my Benmar Compucourse 2000 autopilot brings up "0" when I push "STAND BY" and "OPTION2" to match my compass heading!
That would make my day.

Larry, I have the same boat and my trans temp did the same thing. After replacing the sender, I still get an alarm occasionally. I think it's in the main board for the alarm system. Don't be surprised if it does it again. The fix is to reset that part of the alarm by switching off the ignition switch and switching it back on. So far it hasn't happened often enough to dig into the alarm panel which I had rebuilt 13 years ago.
