Last winter, was riding around with my 90yoa father, during a major snowstorm here in W. MI (no, millions did not leave their homes and all homes where still there, after storm, plus FEMA was not called- thank g-d). I notice a young woman all bundeled up with a 2 or 3 year old that could barely walk in tow, fighting through the deep snow. I pulled up an asked if she far to walk and would she be willing to accept a ride. She said only a block, but yes would accept. Turned out to be several block and all deep snow. She asked why are you doing this. I responded that when I was young, someone stopped to help my wife, when she ran out of gas, and was returning the favor.
Also, I encountered someone in mid-0H during a very bad snow storm and very cold (no, it is not always that cold in a snow storm...relative basis, eh). He was a student who had run out of gas. We gave him a ride back to a station, filled a gas can and took him back and got him on his way.
Both parties were what you would, in the U.S. call minorities. I have worked with over 18 nationalities in my various careers. When I come back to the US I have to start thinking in political correctness and look out for "minorities". Otherwise, they are just people to me.
Finally, very recently, my brother-in-law just started to recover after two years of hospitalization, after a surgery gone bad. Did I mention that hospitals are dangerous places...massive round robin cases of infections going around. He almost died four times. Did I mention that they are filthy? My wife helped her sister out for a long period and they were stunned how poor the hospital conditions were and how little staff followed procedure, even tho the BIL had an infection notice posted on his door. Completely ignored many times....observed by me once or twice...scary.
Long story short, we bought them (BIL and SIL) a handicapped van awhile ago. She could take him for rides and now, other relatives have made his house handicapped accessible. He is now home, wheel chair bound, but can run around the tiny town where they live in his wheelchair. He had no use of his lower extremities a year ago, i.e. no sensation at all. Now he can use a walker (barely) to go into his own home's bathroom.
I'm very sorry to go political, but I am very concerned. If Barry O gets in, that hospital is the model for Hillary/Barry style government medical care...incompetent staff, filthy conditions, unresponsive to patient care. Dare I mention two other Guv orgs, Fannie...Freddie? Did I mention that after a very signifiicant surgery (bariatric- ask the coach of Notre Dame) he was sent home in 3 days in his own car for a 6 hour drive. This is a 400# man at the time. He returned to the hospital in an ambulance a couple days laters with massive infections, near death. That was two years ago.
So I tried to help him/her as best I could at a distance. He is not well off, so we helped with fuel and transportation of his wife and my wife was often gone to help and probably slipped them some checks. I am very pleased we were able to help.
Sorry for wandering long post.
