  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I know it might vary, but on a typical one, does the genset pull from front or rear tank on a 53MY? The reason I'm asking is my tanks were off balance, rear tank had more fuel than front (I'd guess genset pulls from front?) causing her to PLOW even worse, so I flipped the manifolds to pull from the rear and return to the front and FORGOT. Now my rear tank is nearly empty! And the front is more than 3/4 full Due to last night horrible storms (94mph gust at the reporting station less than a half mile from here)...I'm dependent on the genset for power and it's going to hit 100*F+ again today...not a day to be without power!

On our '80 53MY the genny pulls fuel from the foreword tank.

If you don't want to run the engines to "transfer" fuel, I once transferred fuel from one tank to the other with a standard 12V Holley automotive fuel pump - a few feet of hose and 12V available (if you have it) and off you go. I keep that Holley on board - it's been handy on several occasions.

As long as the gennie pulls from the front, I'll just wait for the next cruise and run the engines from the front tank and return to the rear....and keep an eye on it! Thanks!

Your boat's predecessor, the 50MY, draws only from the front tank, which is for that reason a few gallons larger. I have had a manifold modification to draw from aft as well on my to-do list for years now. Thanks for reminding me.

Same on mine (1970 53) genset is hooked to front tank which is larger

FWIW, Check your oem diagrams/manual on your '80. I believe that on the post-'77 or '78 models, when Hatt increased the 53MY fuel capacity to 700 gal, the aft tank became the larger tank even though the genny was still fed from the foreword tank.

I'm not on the boat now so I can't look at the paperwork but I think that is the case.

You are correct.
