Do any of you know of a do it yourself yard in the Lauderdale area ?
I want to be able to do some of my own work if possible.
thanks

Cracker Boy in Ft Pierce may have a sister yard in Ft Lauderdale. There use to be a yard called Playboy in Ft Lauderdale, they may NKA Crackerboy. Give them a call.

The Ft Pierce yard is DIY all the way to spraying, cant do that part yourself, have to be a licensed contractor approved by the yard and have to buy all materials from the yard.

There are several Cracker Boy yards in that part of Florida. So it may pay to shop, they let you do most work except for things highly regulated for safety or insurance reasons.

We pulled at the one in Ft Pierce. Good yard, but they have gone way up on the daily rate so you will want to get in and out. They also want you to buy your supplies there.

thanks ... I'll let you know what I find when I do my "homework"

combine fun and work and head up to St Augustine... I use St Augustine Marine as it's not only decently priced, but you do not have to buy supplies from them and they have good rates if you need them to do any work.

Plus the Admiral loves the fact St Augustine is a neat city. We put our boat on the hard there in 2004 for 17 days, We spent 11 days sanding the hull (PO used oil based house paint) then put on 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of Awlgrip, plus 3 coats of bottom paint, had the props pulled and balanced.

But we stopped working at 4 PM and went into town for dinner every night (you are all of 2 miles away).

Did have the yard put in a thru hull transducer for me. And we lived onboard the entire time (cool May time period)

Total cost for everything was $2400. OH, that does not count the cost of dinners.......Or beer.

Last March we hauled our 36C at Hurricane Hole. this yard is about 20 minutes down the Miami river; same deal, you must buy supplies from them. They could not get our VC-17 bottom paint at first, so I brought my own. They charged me $100 for not having them get it. Not cheap, but a good yard. The boat is always on pavement. Lots of dust as everyone but us was grinding several years worth of old bottom paint. Grinding dust everywhere. Made me glad that our VC-17 will never need that. Total bill for Friday haulout to Monday morning launch was over $800.

steve, try "riverbend" and "jacksons"- both on the new river

Used Playboy in 2001 for bottom work; nice people, and a fair price.

I used Playboy last year. If you go, make sure you have a copy of your boat insurance paperwork with you or they will not pull you. Just had some work done through the mechanic that installed my diesels at another yard up the New River. Believe the name is Marina Road Marina. It is right next to the State Road 84 bridge on the south side. I did not have to have my insurance papers with me there.
