Taking a swing here, in hopes someone has the answer which Direct TV hasn't been able to provide:
As Direct TV transitions all of their HD programming over to KA satellites, what happens to the HD channels I currently get via our KVH TV6 which is KU only? Am I just S.O.L?

Its hard to believe they'd take away my "entitlement" to HD programming after investing so much bank in the TV6. (its a political heyday...thought Id jump on the entitlement bandwagon).

I think the SD channels will go first. I don't see DirectTV killing off the ku band any time soon. It's all a matter of digital bandwidth.

Do not feel alone. All the local chanels in NC Broadcast in HD the M5 will not pick up any of them. When i purchased it all was well. Now i can not watch Duke Basketball its broadcast on a local chanel but sometime on espn. About 10 gran to upgrade. I just purchased a dish and installed it on the dock. All well if at the home port. Messed up kinda i s$ck& at best....

Hey, it's just a matter of time til it's all obsolete. I used to have direct on the boat, dish at the house, and charter for phone and Internet. Now I just use my unlimited data phone to stream slingTV and Hulu to whatever TV I'm near. I'm happy, and my wallet loves me!

tell me more

Slingtv is owned by Dish network. For 20 bucks a month you get 20 channels of tv, just like satellite. For 5 more, you get all the sports channels, espn, sec network etc . Hulu is 7 bucks a month for tons of TV and movies. I hook a dongle to the mini usb port on the phone, which has an hdmi port to the TV. You can also use something called micast, which is wireless. The bottom line is that whatever you see on your phone is sent to the TV in full 1080p. I get the local channels on a Shakespeare HD antenna by changing the input source on the tv. Try it, you'll like it!

The is about a 10 second delay with slingtv compared to the Kvh feed, and of course if you are out of cell coverage area, then all bets are off. One of the nice things about Direct is that you don't have to cancel your account, you can simply suspend it. So if I know I'm going somewhere with no cell coverage, I can simply activate the Direct account, and suspend it again when I get back. The suspend option only works after you have fulfilled your 2 year contract.

I suppose I could do the same with my Chromecast. I use it quite a bit at home, and the phone becomes my remote. Its all bluetooth. I too am concerned about sports, especially. I can't imagine the super bowl in anything less than Ultra HD on the big screen, though. And MMA. Gotta have my MMA. Much to my husbands delight, I am not a Lifetime Network kind of girl.

We have been investigating ways to eliminate that bill every month. It is reliant on internet, though, and We've had poor luck getting good high speed out of a marina. We always max out our 4G on the phone by mid month, even on our latest/greatest all unlimited plan. Suggestions?

Another option is to just switch from Directv to Dish. I would assume that you can use your same sat antenna and you won't lose the HD. My Intellian ACU shows Directv and Dish satellites. I just configured it for Dish.

I just installed an intellian I 2 dome sold with a direct tv receiver. To my disappointment intellian told me I cannot receive Direct HD channels. However Direct TV tell me I should get HD with a BBand converter.I cannot find anyone in Lauderdale who sells them.If I find one does anyone know if the B Band converter will give me HD

Your dealer should be able to get you the information on the system so you can figure out if it supports hd. That's what you paid them for.

B-band converters are available by mail from www.weaknees.com You need one for each coax antenna connection. Probably they can tell you if you need them.

I got a letter from DirecTV 2 weeks ago that they are changing my plan...

(I didn't ask or know about this!)

I just have the basic package, no frills... and pay $64 a month..

As of Jan 1st, they will be moving me to the top package and adding the NFL package..

And my total bill will change from the $64 down to $10 a month

Guss there is a positive to AT-T buying DirecTV and me being a retired AT-T employee

I am upgrading my m5 to a tv5. I'm not getting ANY HD channels now. Which ones do you get?

I also have an m5. I am told it will become obsolete in the next couple years. I considered upgrading to the hd7 but it's $10k. I'm probably going with the tv5 which retails for $5k and since I should have a covered slip when my boat gets back to the water I will put a dish on a dock pole for HD at the dock and non HD while out.
