Sorry for what might sound like a silly question. I want to check the operation of my 90 hp Yamaha dink engine while the dink is still on the hard top. Assuming I hook up a muff for water flow, can I work on the dink engine while it is still on the hard top if the engine cannot be brought to vertical? Right now, I'd guess that the engine can be lowered to about 30 degrees from vertical.

By the way, it is a two stroke not a four stroke engine.

It should be fine, I have worked on mine a few times while on the foredeck but I actually raised it up far enough to level the engine, placed a small brace in the cradle to keep the Whaler from moving to much.

I cant see why not. I used to run my outboard (2 stroke, 25 hp) tilted up to where the prop was barley under the water. We idled through weeds, grass, mud and so forth, not to mention jumping logs and tree tops laying in the water. We were in the South Louisiana Bayous. If you ever watched Swamp People you know what I am talking about. I seriously doubt you can damage anything. I will say sometimes it took a couple more pulls on the rope to crank when it was tilted way up.

if the motor is tilted too far you may have fuel problems with the carbs not being level enough. it should be fine if it is tilted no further than the shallow water tilt bracket.
