Hatteras Model

Hey all, long time gone but I have a question. A fellow owed me some money years ago, so instead of paying me, he gave me a nice novirua (??) dingy with a thirty HP yamaha. I mounted it on the bow of my boat and only used it in the bahamas. Now 10 years later I want to sell it but I never got the title for it and now the fellow who gave it to me has died! No way to get hold of his wife or family either. Boat came from out of state.... Never appeared to have any type of numbers or registration on the sides.

What can I do??

thanks in advance!

Can you just write up a bill of sale with all of the relevant information? Include names of buyer and seller, HIN#, price paid, etc. It seems like the SOS would accept that.

It varies from state to state what will be acceptable. A friend of mine had a very similar issue and it was very difficult to resolve. You need either the original bill of sale from when it was new or the title. There is a way to get a title but you will need a notarized letter stating you are the lawful owner. Check with your state and find out what you need to get a title. It is going to be tough to sell without a title.

....or Delaware.

Tennessee doesn't title boats. All you get here when you buy a boat is a bill of sale, and that's all it takes to register it.

Who is going to notrize it ??????? maybee Freebird !!!!

I just went through the same thing on my dink. P.O. passed without giving me the title. After 1 year, I got a letter notarized stating what happened and gave them the serial #'s and applied for the new registration and title. That was all I had to do. But thats in NC.

Thanks for the replies! If it helps, I'm in FL....
