Before I try this I wanted to check with members of the forum. I read , I believe it was here, that when changing my Racor 1000 filter elements that I can top off the canisters with Diesel Kleen instead of diesel. It would be more convenient to use Diesel Kleen.
Thanks
Scott

But you should carry a spare gallon or two of diesel for filter change top offs during unplanned filter changes. If you have spare diesel Kleen along for that thats ok too.

Just curious, but why would you want to do this instead of just topping off with diesel?

Diesel Kleen is an excellent injector and entire fuel system cleaner. It also boosts cetane by several points providing for a cleaner fuel burn. Some folks that have minor sooting on their transom have reported that it goes away with Diesel Kleen. I use it with every diesel fillup (in double dosage) and I always keep several gallons on board for the next refuel or for filter changes. It's much cleaner and safer to keep sealed Diesel Kleen on board as opposed to open jerry cans of diesel. It will also stabilize the fuel for storage.

It's great stuff not snake oil. It works.

If you want to really clean the injectors and lines, next secondary fuel filter change, top oof the secondary with DK, disconnect the supply and return line and feed them to a common bucket. Dump a gallon of DK in the bucket and let the engine run a few minutes off that. Wont hurt and might help remove deposits giving you a better injector spray pattern.

DK is clean, diesel is not. If you fill filters with diesel out of a can, you run the risk of getting unfiltered diesel into the engine. The risk is low, but when DK is actually easier to carry, stow, and use to fill the filters, why not?

Agreed; that's whatI use every filter change.

FWIW, fuel priming pumps make this much easier/cleaner/faster. There is no need to mess with pouring anything into filters at all. Just change the filters, turn on the priming pump.
