Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have hoses running from my air box drains into containers. How much oil should I get in about 100 hours of run time. I know it will vary based on the condition of the engine, but how much is to much and how much would be considered normal? John

I’m not sure the answer to your question but it’s easy enough to empty them every oil change.

I have found the easiest way to empty them is to remove one of the oil lines or the vent filter off the top and suck it out with an oil boy dipstick vacuum pump. Quick, easy and no mess.

I change the canister every oil change. It's easy. Unscrew the top. Open a bottle of water. Drink it. Put the empty bottle on the old top and put the new top on the oily bottle.

Works well. No mess at all.

I don't have them but curious about adding them. I don't have airseps and it appears the drains go back in to the oil pan. I think this is the factory set up. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but seems like everyone else has crap cans or air seps

You shouldn't have any oil coming out of the airbox drains. The only things that should be entering the airbox is air and some consdensate from the intedrcooler/ aftercooler. The drains are to allow removal of the consdensates before they can be ingested into the cylinder with the combustion charge air.

Same here, if the engines are run right the oil is minimal, I checked mine every 1000 hours and maybe got a coffee mug full if that.
