  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
We put the new deck box to use yesterday, and overcame Marie concerns that it would not be worth the space it occupies which is not small (6.5' x 2'). The box serves as a speaker box, coffee table, fender holder, ice box, foot rest and dining table. The bow may soon take the place of the aft deck as the most used area of the boat.
Photos show construction and the installed box. I made a mold to hold the 1/4" plywood in place, which was probably unnecessary. The box is bolted through it bottom into the cored deck with 3/8 ss nuts embedded in epoxy.

I did mine the lazy way... I took the two boxes that were mounted by the bow and relocated them to in front of the front bow seats. Now we use them to eat on, put our feet up and stuff.
That freed up the area by the bow for easier access to the windlass and working on the bow docklines.

I bought two standard size fiberglass boxes and mounted them forward on my 1972 48 YF...loved them except I collected too much junk in them!!! But my fenders stayed clean.

To get them level on the curved deck, I cut some squares of teak to shim the different levels, then screwed the box thru them to the deck with caulk....

I considered thru bolting but decided it was not worth the effort inside the boat as the boxes would likely be smashed if solid water ever came over the bow in volume and the big screws I used seemed secure enough for less severe stress.
