  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
A bucket of Dawn and a little Rustoleum Professional (Almond for the Detroit's and Grey for the bilge) can actually make the ER look presentable...

Nicely detailed! A lot of care went into the project.

Looks like you dismantled and painted each part individually. Did you install new hoses too? Looks great.

Very Nice

Nothing like a Sweet looking engine room !

ME TOO!!!!! Wanna come do mine?

How long did that take you? It looks terrific. Better than new, actually.

A couple years ago, while in winter storage, I dismantled everything to replace all hoses, belts, clean exchangers, thermostats, fresh water pump, re-wrap wiring harnesses, etc. and I painted the pieces while they were apart. That took a couple of weekends of actual work per engine but many days of research to find all the pieces and parts and at reasonable prices. Last weekend I touched up the engines which only took an hour and painted the grey bilges which amounted to about 4 hours of cleaning and 4 hours of painting for 1/2 the ER. Once you get started, it actually goes faster than you think. The hard part is getting started.

X (What are we up to now,... 10?) as Dr. Jim said, it looks better than new.

I think there's a lot to be said for doing work that way. I does more than look good. It's a visible reminder of the work that was done. Something that's hidden and looks cruddy may function just as well, but it's not the same as being able to look in your ER and see a clean, well maintained space and machinery. It's something you can look at and take pride in the accomplishment.

It's probably worth a few bucks at resale time too. The customer may not look at the engines, but the surveyor certainly will.

Oops!! Sorry Tim I thought it was your original post but I see it's Kevin's.

Yes it is an Aussie saying, though I doubt if anybody younger than I would still use it.

Kevin, that engine room shines like the Southern Cross on a clear night!!

Thanks Rick and others. I thought the thread may be going South.

Clean them up, add paint, new hose and pumps - $2500
Give them each 7 gallons of oil - $250
Light them up, sit back and watch them spray oil on each other - Priceless
