Hi all, well we are celebrating....our daughter left GITMO, Cuba yesterday, (MP in the Navy) and is now grounded in Jacksonville, FL. Her connection thru Atlanta to Tampa has been cancelled due to bad weather, so she is hopping the train to get home to us....When she landed yesterday and called me...her first words were.."I AM IN AMERICA"!!!!!!....She is tired, has a cold and just can't wait to see us and take a nap....LOL.. She will have to grab all the Florida sunshine she can while she is here because in two weeks, she reports to Whidbey Island, Wa. near Seattle for 2 years....Proud momma here..excited to see our baby!

Cheers, Laurie & Jim

A great way to start the month. Best to all!!

Great news!!!!!!

But does that mean YOU will be visiting my fine city while she's here ?

Really great news! Please thank her for her continuing service.

Hey Charlie, no, we will not be coming up that way for now. Our lil soldier got on the 7:15 train and she will be in Tampa at 12:30 pm. She had trouble getting a cab at 6:00 am at your FINE CITY airport...and she said she was standing there looking very upset when a nice lady came over to her and asked her if she was alright??? She has been traveling since yesterday at 3:30 in the morning...when she told the lady she could not get a cab..the lady made a phone call and within 15 minutes a Town Car pulled up and told her that this was a friend and he would get her to the train in no time!!! One of those nice stories of how strangers come to the rescue...

After seeing what jerks those detainees have been, I think this one act of kindness has restored her faith in mankind....LOL..

Please thank your daughter for her service and her continuing commitment to safeguarding all of us! Gitmo, Camp Delta and working 'inside the wire' are ominus and stressful places to serve our country. If more Americans and objective, accurate media representatives were allowed to spend 40 hours working there - there may be a whole different attitude about Homeland Security and defense spending.
No, I don't agree with the way Camp Delta was established - we should turn over all detainees to the recognized Iraqi government. I have confidence their judical system would see justice prevail.
Your daughter remains a great American, she has my thanks, respect and gratitude!

Well, she is now safe and sound at home with us! Momma and Poppa bear can rest easy...on the way home, she confided in me that while she was in Gitmo, she had been "assaulted" three times in the past month. As soon as the detainees heard they were going to be released/relocated..that place became a "madhouse"...she was punched in the face and had things (bodily products) thrown at her...she is a tough cookie and handled things well. She received an award for her excellent service and is now looking forward to working state side. She keeps saying..."it is so nice to be back in the states"!!! Thanks for all your well wishes!

Cheers, Laurie & Jim

Tell your daughter thanks for her service to our country and have a wonderful homecoming. Ron

Congratulations to you and please pass our appreciation on to your daughter. I know firsthand what the job was like and that it was mostly unpleasant and largely unappreciated by our media outlets. I do know that the leadership there greatly values her service and that of her fellow MPs. Our people in GITMO suffer some pretty degrading acts on the part of the detainees and are amazingly reserved and professional by not responding in kind. I'm very proud of them all and know that you are, too!
