Thanks. Is the plug a screw on or similar push in? I'm not seeing one in my inventory. I'll have to order.
Is this fitting something you've serviced over the years?
There is a pin that goes thru the neck above that butterfly nut. It holds the internal round chunk in place that includes the speed paddle wheel, mag pick up and signal cable. Around 1 1/4 inch in diameter, 2 inches long.
In the picture below, this safety ring should be on one end of this pin to hold it in place, not to pull on.
The other end of the pin looks like a nail head.
The whole chunk should then pull straight up if it was properly installed,, with grease.
There is no internal valve to stop green water from flowing in.
The outside threaded tube is held in place like a normal thru hull with that butterfly nut and some caulk.
Mine has
no guide when re-installing. Ensure the paddle wheel is facing forward, push straight in, rotate a lil till the pin can be re-inserted.
On this chunk (cartridge?) in an O ring (or two?). This would be normal suspect #1.
Thru hull caulk is suspect #2. Cracked plastic thru hull is suspect #3.
This is old plastic (Nylon, Polycarbonate, PVC or like?).
Mine is in good shape but 46 years old.
In the water would not be a good first time service of this gizmo.
