Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
I remember someone having some couches made in Stuart, FLA. I would like the name and number of the company. I tried searching the forum, did not come up.
thanks for thelp.
JW

JW, I had talked to the people in Stuart (don't remember the name) they were high and leadtime was long! I went with Glen Eagle Furniture in N.C. Melvin Kelly 704-873-3244. It's still in the box but looks nice. John

FWIW, I boughta sleeper sofa and matching chair from FlexSteel that was supposed to fit thru our 22" door, and what we saw in the show room was comfortable as a bed and a couch. When it arrived, we broke up and removed the old couche and chair, then couldn't bring in the new. NO velcro, and NO easy to remove bolts to shrink it down to 22". Had to remove staples from the leather couche and completely disassemble. Probably don't have to mention that the admiral was fit to be tied. Hope my experience helps, as Flexsteel normally has a good name, and their prices showed they were proud of it!!!

After I threw out the original furniture on my boat I couldn't find anything that would fit through the 23" door. Finally settled on a futon. There was hundreds of patterns and styles to choose from. I assembled it after getting it through the door, no problem. if you get tired of the pattern or gets too dirty you just have to buy another cover and its like new again. We like all the extra room we have also vs the original sofas. Ron

Flexsteel makes residential furniture, and also has a semi custom Marine/RV line that does come apart. Search the web for Flexsteel and you will find a dealer. I've had it on 2 boats now. Its great stuff.

JW,
I also used Glenn Eagle and am very satisfied with the sofas I had made. Everything fit as if they were made on the boat. Pieces come apart and were made to fit through the door with no problem. Price was very reasonable. Try this link for more info and opinions http://www.samsmarine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1649

Jack: Nice furniture. Is the starboard couch a sleeper?
Mike Ford

No sleeper. I had the choice between a sleeper or storage and opted for storage. They are big enough to sleep on if needed.

John,

When you set the sofa up, use clear silicone spray to seperate the back from the seat. I had a hard time getting mine apart, called Melvin and that's what he suggested. Came apart flawlessly.

Jack thanks for the info!! I am going to give him a call. I current have custom church pews in my rig, great for charter fishing , but horrible for anything else. I think the storage ones are for me.
I like all of your secret fishing lures you have in your couch.
Thanks again,
John W

I don't have the company name in front, but I'm sure Viking will be of help.
Viking uses a company in NJ that makes very nice furniture. From what I remember when I got a quote it was rather expensive. Viking has a facility in Riveria Beach, (Palm Beach), and the people there are very nice and I'm betting they would tell you who to contact. If you don't have any luck and it seems interesting, let me know and I'll dig my stuff up which is on my boat this weekend.

Jack, Thanks for the tip. The way it looks now we will put it in first of Dec. We will keep the hatches up "till we run the new engines with the Cummins people. John

JW,

Don't tell my 1 year old about those lures. he thinks they're his toys! FYI they can also fit the couches for rod storage, real nice feature if you have a lot of rods.

I believe Viking uses William Bales and Company. I know Ocean uses them. I saw one of their sectionals the other day on a neighbors boat and it looked great. Krazy8 has one on his boat and the pics. look similar to the one I saw.

We've had great experience getting a custom cabinet maker to constructing the box frames with drawers then had a apolster (sp?) cover and build cushions. Very affordable!

Thanks Jack for the recommendation of Glen Eagle Furniture. I purchased two barrel chairs and a 102" long couch from them. They are truly custom and the quality is excellent. I can't say enough about these guys. The price is no more than buying high quality furniture at your local furniture store when it is on sale. We love the new look in our salon and the additional storage in the couch is a welcome addition. I would highly recommend calling Melvin Kelley at Glen Eagle if you are in the market for some custom pieces. I'll get some pics next time I'm on the boat so that all can see what I'm talking about.

The sofa I used was the "Voyager" Model

Nautical Enviroments ( formerly William Bales Associates )

West Berlin, NJ

They were once part of Bales or partners with bales , and maybe still associated with them somehow . They do Viking Post and Some Oceans

I tried to call Malvin at Glen Eagle and the phone # has been discnneccted . Does anybody know what has happened to the company?Does anybody have a web site for them? Thanks

Just as an FYI, the "backs" of many standard couches come off. I know they do for our LazyBoy recliner...should be no problem getting it through the door.

My sofa and chairs as well as Walt P's were made by Lubo at IDDS (idds.custommade@verizon.net <idds.custommade@verizon.net>) although I understand he never wants to do it again, but maybe business is slow. he is in NJ. Pics are on the forum.
