  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
Finally after a decade of dreaming we are Hatteras owners. The Saturday before last after a few misteps we brought a 1979 37C from Winthrop MA to Stonington CT. We ran from 7am to 4:30pm at 19knts and burned 219 gal during the trip. I posted a few pictures in the gallery. The winter will be busy with projects and I look forward to everyones input. For now I would like to thank all of you for your comments over the years and expect I will be able to contibute as well.

Hal

Congratulations! All your work will be a labor of love, I assure you. Emphasis on labor...ratio usually reported here is 4 weeks labor, 1 week love. Its a great weight loss program to boot, in my experience. All your work is up or down stairs or in and out of the engine room...what fun and good for the heart!

Just remember the three prime functions: first float, second go, third looking good.

Congratulations! I, too, an anxiously awaiting to make a similar post.....I'm getting very close! Feels great, doesn't it? :)

Congratulations Hal on your hatteras. I like you started this venture this year and without the support of this website would have spent more money, made more wrong decisions and would not have met as many hatteras owners to share the seas with. Good luck and do not be bashful to ask the question.

Again, Congratulations! Hatts are great boats. I've had mine almost 14 years and am still thrilled with her, more so than any of the other five boats I have owned over the years.

Congradulations on your new "baby", hope all your yachting will be in calm winds and fair seas. Bob

Welcome to the club! I'd say, May all your days be Hatteras days! but I understand that a "Hatteras Day" is the sort of day that's so snotty that only a Hatteras can take it. So, I'll just second Surfdancer45; "calm winds and fair seas."

This might be a good time to bring up what I now call "The Hatteras Effect." I've recently found out from the Admiral, and a few friends that when they mention "my husband/friend has a boat" the response is usually a polite "That's nice, what kind?" When they answer "A Hatteras" The response gets a whole lot more enthusiastic.

I know it's just an ego stroker, but enjoy it, you've earned it.

It is true that Hatteras has a reputation that even non-boaters are usually aware of. When you say that you own a Hatteras, they usually say something like, "Oh, wow, I've heard that those are great boats" or something to that effect.

Congrats

Hi Hal,

She sure sounds Yar!

By the way, isn't ARETE ancient greek for Virtue?

Rich

Congratulations! You have chosen a good solid boat that deserves the name ARETE. Enjoy it and no dancing in the isles. If one of these days you make it to Rhodes, Greece look me up on Lady Ntina in Mandraki Harbor.

George

My Irish wife ( who had Greek Easter for all my relatives last weekend) is an ancient history teacher and selected the name. Defined roughly as follows:

The most articulated value in Greek culture is areté. Translated as "virtue," the word actually means something closer to "being the best you can be," or "reaching your highest human potential." Homer applies the term of both the Greek and Trojan heroes as well as major female figures, such as Penelope, the wife of the Greek hero, Odysseus. In the Homeric poems, areté is frequently associated with bravery, but more often, with effectiveness. The man or woman of areté is a person of the highest effectiveness; they use all their faculties: strength, bravery, wit, and deceptiveness, to achieve real results.
I wish I could bring the whole family over there. Boat budget has decimated the Travel budget :(
