  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
I've owned a bunch of boats over the years, just sold my series 1 36C and am looking at a 45C ... problem is the engines are a less than favorite of most folks. Cummins VT370M. It was a somewhat shortlived turbo version of the 300M.
Anyone have these ? ... they went into series 1 45s as a "go-fast" before the 8v71TIs.

additionally ..out of curiousity, what do you think a series 1 45 bare hull needing paint is worth ?

thanks

Is the one I'm looking at the only series 1 45 that came down the pike with these engines ?
Also ... just looking for a few folk's $.02 ... what would you pay for a series 1 45 in need of paint and engines ?

Bertramp:
This is "DaveH" from the Continuouswave Whaler site. I just joined this forum to read up on the latest and saw your post. Small world, huh?

I would not worry about the Cummins as much since you can place them for sale on boatdiesel.com. If you are not familiar with him, Tony Athens is on the west coast and a Cummins "god". I would suggest getting in touch with him with regard to the value of these engines on the market or as a trade. If the 45C hull, interior and mechanical systems are in decent shape, I would not hesistate on substituting the engine upgrade value minus the trade-in value as part of the equation.

Please post what you decide to do on the 45C

I noticed the Bertramp II was off the yachtworld site. I watched it for a while hoping that it would wait for me, but that's the way it goes. I hope you got the price you wanted. Good luck with the "bigger boat" search.

boat sold .... it's never easy ... and the price ... well, it's never what you really want, but .....
I alreadt have a new one (or at least new to me) ...a series 1 45c ... with the cummins 370s. Needs clean-up and paint, but was bought well below where the other asks were, so ...

34 hatts come up at real good prices sometimes ... you should keep your eyes open and maybe even follow some of the auctions

The 34's convertibles are high on the list, but I just love the lines on the 36 Series I's. I'll just keep saving the pennies. . .

Good luck with the 45.
