  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
65' CONV -Series I (1986 - 1998)
I have a friend with a pair of 6CTAs. Today he noticed a small amount of oil dripped out of the Airsep on one engine. I'm guessing it's a seal on the turbo but not too familiar with those engines. Any suggestions of what to look for? Probably be crawling in the ER to help him on Sat.

The cheap fix, so unlikely, is the one way valve in the drain line to sump. If its gunked up oil will fill the line and back up to the filter.
More likely it's a turbo fault. Sounds like intercooler core will need cleaning on air side. I've never muched liked the idea of throwing all the crap from the engine breather down the air side and through that core.

If like my B series the turbo is not expensive at all to replace. Same price as a rebuild. If they need to go that route.

The Airsep system is used to control crankcase ventilation. It has nothing to do with leaky turbo oil seals or plugged up aftercoolers.
