  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
67' COCKPIT MY (1987 - 1995)
I spent the night on my boat at the Tampa Convention center on New Years Eve. Enjoyed seeing several Hatteras crewed with Iowa supporters in town for the Outback Bowl. (Go Gators). I live 4 blocks away from the marina and was able to offer transport help to a guy with a part store need. I would do the same for pretty much anyone especially a Hatteras guy.

This forum has a diverse group of kindrid spirits. I encourage anyone cruising to Tampa to use my public profile info to contact me regarding cruising in Tampa and especially if you find yourself needing a part, repair, doctor, or some other logistical advice or support. If I am in town, I will do what I can for you.

Maybe we could offer an additional directory or way to distinguish forum members who feel similarly about helping people who visit their communities and the comraderie of this unique place on the Internet dedicated to a classic brand name of boats can grow further.

Thanks Bruce,
I feel the same way. Funny thing about this forum, though I have not met anyone in person, I'd be happy to help another member anyway I could.

As far as a directory though, I think that might have some problems. I'm leary about putting too much personal info on the net. A better way would be to PM members if your travels take you in their area.

I'd be OK if the public profile included City as well as State for just such a purpose.

My 2 cents.

Ditto- Always happy to help. On the Chesapeake @ Kent Narrows MD. most of the time and Ft Lauderale, Fl. a fair amount in winter.

How was the convention center? I have some friends that took their Bertram Motor yacht (Lady Jane) and they were staying there. I have not had a chance to talk to them, but you probably talked to them there.

Bruce, that is a great idea. I would be more than happy to offer any help that I could to someone cruising in the New Orleans area. I doubt anyone will be cruising around here for a while with all the damage from Katrina, but thankfully my Hatteras' and I survived!

Bruce,

Good idea! So I played around with my profile entry screen and discovered that the "state" input block accepts any charactors you type in, so I just changed my "state" in my public profile from "IL" to "Wilmington, IL", which is near Chicago on the Illinois River. If you ever do the Great Circle Route, you'll go right by me.

I think it'd be great if we could put our private phone numbers in the secure part of the site that only the administrator can see; and I would certainly check a checkbox to authorize them to give my phone number to anybody registered on this forum. Since we don't have that, the best way is to send an e-mail (not a PM) through the public profile.

I'm hoping I'm the one that does the helping instead of the one needing it.

Yep - I'm near Destin, and same deal applies - if I can be of assistance, just give a holler.....

You're right. I just expanded my profile state to "Chester, CT (Conn River)". Unfortunately, we're unable to sort by state. The way the members list is currently set up you would need scroll through the entire list to find members near the city you're visiting.

Admins & Poohbahs, can we add a sort command to the members list "State" Column?

That one requires application support - beyond my access level :D

I'm located at the entrance to the Tenn-Tom, on the Tennesse R., Aqua Yacht Harbor. The "Will Power" there most every week-end, but 96 miles away if your in a tight and needs some help.

So I just put the following request in through the forum feedback loop for the Administrator to read:

In a recent thread, a large number of us agreed we'd like to be able to offer support and assistance to any other forum members that are cruising near our location and in need of help. The problem is that there's no way to locate other members by city/state and find their phone or e-mail info. People are reasonably concerned that they don't just want to put their phone numbers and e-mail IDs in the "open" section of the public profile. A number of us just put our "city and state" information in the public profile box for "state" since it's the only current open box. This seems like a natural great way for the website to help Hatteras owners.

So here's the question: Can the website have a place for forum members to put in their city and state location information with a simple sort order or listing lookup screen so others can find where we are located when they are traveling? Also, can you make it possible to input phone numbers in a semi-private area of the forum where other forum members can somehow get it if they need it, recognizing that anybody can become a forum member so anybody could look up a phone number. We already have a secure e-mail ID system here that forum members can e-mail others through this forum while still keeping their e-mail ID in a secure area of the server.

Anybody that decides to cruise the great lakes and goes through Detroit, please contact me. I will find you a free slip for a couple of days and we can swap lies. Don't fear Detroit, although our foul weather gear is made from old Kevlar sails. We find that although it doesn't do a great job of keeping out rain or waves, it does not allow bullets to penetrate.

We also would happy to help (or meet) anyone going thru ( or living in the area) Stuart, Fl.

We also live in the South Florida area please let us know if I can be of any assistance. Gina Marie/ Tom

Count me in. I am in N Ft Myers, FL and would be happy to meet or help other Hatt owners.

If any of you are cruising the upper Mississippi, I am in Rock Island, IL. Would be great to meet any of you. Just give a holler on the VHF to Timeless when you get near Sunset Marina. The radio is almost always on when we are here.

I am happy to do what I can. I am also in South Florida right across from the Hillsboro Inlet

count on me in the cape canaveral FL area.

I will also help however I can. Manatee county, Tampa bay, Sarasota County area.

I am am member of a website for diesel trucks, and we have a list of this type for the help network. It is open to registered members only and has a phone number and email address. It would be nice if we could do something like that. Can an Forum Administrator help.

Re: Cruising Support Long Island

I live and winter the Boat on the South Shore and Summer on the North Fork. So I can help for that area and the surrounding area.
