  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Looking at a 1979 53 C Hatteras. 892’s 735 HP Each. Any idea of cruise speed @ 1950 rpm? Boat has no tower and wondering GPH @ 1950 also.

if they’re 735HP then she was repowered. I can only guess cruise would be in the 21-23kt range at 1950. Fuel burn should be around 55GPH for both engines and generator

Thanks Jack. Little confused most I have looked at were 1271 prior to 1979 and think that was turning point for standard power being 892’s

Late ones were 892's. Still big and heavy. Qsm11 at 700 hp gets about 20 kt. Cruise.

I ran a 53' from Miami to Freeport, TX . From Ft Myers to Appalachicola she cruised at 20 Knox and burned approx 750 gallons of fuel. She had 12-71 t's which I think are pretty close hp wise to the 8-92's. I think that crossing was around 320 miles but I've slept since then.

735HP 8V92s never we’re available in the 53C. They had the 650HP 8V92TIs or 12V71s of various HP

There's a great one with qsm11's in town. Mikes a member. He has 1271's if memory serves.

He could probably fill in the blanks

Appreciate the feed back. You guys certainly have more knowledge than I do about the 892’s in the 53C. There’s a 53 for sale with QSM 11’s claims cruise #speed is 20 knots. I’m hoping to see 21 or 22 knots at 1950 rpm was hoping for some real world experience. Figured someone on here would know.

79-80 53’s had 650hp 8/92’s same speeds as the 12/71ti boats 19kts @2100 rpm lifting rails will give more speed to a 53c than hp. Full length 3” rails with a couple degree down angle will yield almost 2 extra kts.

We added the lifting rails to our 52c shortly after purchase this year. Was done during engine reman and I was not on the boat prior to the rails or new engines nor do I have performance numbers on the boat before.

I did talk to several others who had added the rails to similar boats and all reported significant performance gains 2knts on average and also lower plane speed.
