- 54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
Since we bought the boat, one of the head pups was erratic. 10 flushes fine, 11th nothing. The stop gap was to turn the shaft slightly with a needle nose.
I have been slowly but surely replacing all discharge hoses and rebuillding the pumps for a while and the balky one was the last one to be done. Replaced seals and stators, burnished the rotors, acid dipped and wire brushed the housing and finished it by Ospho exterior, 2 coats primer and 3 coats Galley Maid (actually Raz) paint. Admiring my work and belatedly noticed the end cap is stamped 32V.
Finally got down to Raz today and Mike opened the motor while I was standing there. The armature was 32 volt and the field windings were 24 volt! Brushes were fine.
Mike commented he had seen some goofy things before but this definitely made the top 3. Bottom line, clean, replace brush holders (don't know the correct term for these...) and F&I new 24 volt armature: $435.00. Damn! Can't believe it took nearly 30 years for someone to find this punch list item...
