Hi All,

Port engine started fine on the hard. (8V71N).

We splashed today and it wouldn't start. I checked the obvious and everything seems ok. Both primary and secondary racors seem full. HOWEVER, the day before we launched the canister fuel filter was accedently loosened, a small amount of fuel lost and it was immediately re tightened.

Could I have lost fuel prime ?

If so, what's the best way to correct it. I'm concerned about a vapor lock type situation occurring.

Thoughts ????

Crank with the stops activated. That should bleed the engine. Are the engine mounted filters full?

Hi All,

Hi Scott, thanks for the quick feedback. If I'm looking at the port engine, transmission to the rear, there is a small racor with a site glass, it looks full. At the front of the engine there is another large racor with a site glass, it looks full. Each are mounted on the wooden 2x4's that are part of the engine room frame.

A third small (8 in) canister fuel filter is located on the engine above the large oil filter. This is the one that was accedently loosened. It was not refilled before being re tightened.

Are you saying crank the engine while holding the stop button, or crank the engine with the emergency shutdown door closed.

How long should it take to clear ? I did try the stop button technique but only for a minute.

Fill the one on the engine then crank for 10 seconds at a time with the stop held not the fuel door.

If it wont prime from this there may be another issue.

Hi All,

Scott, thank you sir, very much. I'll try it in the morning and post the results.

Just because the glass is full does not mean the whole filter is full, take of the top and fill it from there

Good point, will verify that as well...

Hi All,

Scott, BINGO, you were spot on. I removed the spin on canister filter, filled it to the brim and replaced it. I then did a 10 second crank holding the stop button. Next crank she fired right up and purred like a kitten.

Thank you.

Great

Glad to hear it was simple to fix.

Doesn't it pump fuel with the start button depressed? If so how does that help? If not how does it help? Just curious.

It pumps but bypasses the injectors so it clears the air faster. At least that's how it was explained to me.
