Wanted to see if anyone has converted their 8v71-TI canister oil filters to remotely mounted spin ons?

If so, do you have the part numbers and source of the items needed to make the conversion?

Thanks.

You can get them at the DD dealer. I think the adapters are the same for the engine oil canisters and the Allisons.

Hi Timm

If you do convert to spin on, will you be willing to part with your old canisters? If so please let me know price etc. I actually like them better than the spin on type because they have a drain plug on the bottom which allows draining prior to removing the entire canister.

Walt,

Absolutely. As soon as I get everything together I'll shoot you a message and we can figure out how to get them to you.

I bought mine from Johnson & Towers. Also got fuel filter spin on castings from them. Oil filter is an adapter and fuel filter were new castings which bolted up to the same locations as originals.

I recently did this conversion to my 8v71TI and my Allison M20. They are the same part which I got from Stewart Stevenson. I think the spin on adapter part number for DDC is A430. On my application I needed a shorter filter for the Allison. My transmission pressure runs around 160 and I have no leaks.

Good luck,

Larry

The Fram part number for the adapter is k3390.

Regarding the drain plug on the canister - since converting to spin-on I just jab a hole in the used filter casing and drain it into a bucket before I spin-off the filter.

Just had spin ons put on my 1271's last weekend while Diesel Don was doing some other things to mine. He said the same thing. Just tap a hole and let them drain.

The 12-71's usually have two oil filters and there is a drain plug under the casting to let the whole filter drain out.

Yes - two filters, but you still have a bunch left in those filters. I was told to punch a hole and it would be easier. I won't get to do it myself until the next change.

So, your filters are not inverted ?mine drain all the way out through the casting drain.
