Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Do the owners of dark painted hulls notice any increased effort to cool, down below in the summer. Darker colors generally absorb more heat.

YES. YES. And YES! The owners I know who did it, were sorry what they did after the fact, no matter how nice it looks. The AC will struggle. DON'T DO IT!
