  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Well I hate to say it here however just signed a contract on a Maxum 4100SCA. I know it's not anything close to a Hat however for what we want to do, it serves our purpose. Has twin cummins 330bs with less than 1400hrs and a 8.5kw norpro with less than 600 hrs. She is loaded with electronics and as clean as anything I've seen on the used mkt. Has a big swim platform with moled steps for my dogs, one getting up in years that I have to lift her rump to get into the car, and my mother in law whose rump I never want to touch. Hope I can stay here to troble shoot problems on the engines etc. 1999 model which I hope gives me less problems than the early 80s hats we were looking at.

Well now Skip, i think that's great, though I will have to have second thoughts about letting you raft up. I looked at a new one of those at a boat show in about 2001 and remember thinking the layout was nice. I think Pascal owned some sort of Maxum before he got his Hatt. I also recall Pascoe giving this boat a good review... nope, it was a 4600:

I still think you should have got a sail boat...

Yeah I had a 3700 (1998). Pretty decent boat. The 37,41 and 46 were a different division from the smaller maxums and better built. Really didn't have any issues with it during the 5 years I had it. Never even had to call the dealer for anything

Congrats Skip. Only you know what boat is the best fit for your needs. There is a 4100 at our club and the owner has been very happy with it. He runs it single handed and probably puts more hours on his boat than anyone else at our club. Good luck with the purchase.

Hey, Hatts aren't the only nice boat out there, congrats on finding what you wanted.

I've been looking and a few non Hatts have been in consideration. In the end I hope to land back in a Hatt but not ruling out other brands.

A blowboat!!!!! anything, even a Bayliner or Sea Ray beats a blowboat

Inside joke. I like day sailing and need a friend here in NC with an SB. Skip is a great sailor, and he already has ready access to a nice MY!

I have a close friend who owns a 99 4100 Aft with the 330 Cummins. I have run it across Lake Michigan a few times and the boat has never let us down. She really wont like a following or stern quarter sea and she will get you pretty wet on the bridge if its a little breezy and anything over 2-3's.

The engines purr right along and the interior is probably the best 41' layout you will find with 2 island berths and 2 actual heads with separate stall showers. I have always liked their interior features.

There are some goofy little things like the bowrails, they flex A LOT. My buddies boat had a few screws torn out of the deck on the bow rails and especially where you enter the aft deck.

Good luck with the purchase! Every boats a trade off, just enjoy every minute you can on the water!

Well 330b's are way better then what any old Hatt has! I have same motors and they are great there is maintenance to do on them like any motors.

Best thing to do is start reading Tony Athens articles such as.

After cooler maintenance.
Heat Exchangers.
Raw water pumps get the Seaboard one's.
Idler puller upgrade ( simple and cheap one)

Use the Valoline Blue oil and if you want add his crankcase ventilation system another simple nice setup.

Any other question let me know and good luck with it.

Dan

Thanks guys, really excited however there is a little thing called a seatrial and survey to contend with. Did a cold start while down in Fla last weekend and no issues with that however it's not over till the fat lady sings so to speak.
