  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
I will be at CES tomorrow through Friday morning. I have a little bit free time on my schedule to partially peruse the exhibits. There is no way one person can see the whole show in any depth in less than three full time days: I've got about 5 hours. If anyone here has a particular category or product they are interested in or have a question about, I'll try to see what I can learn for you.

Everything George!

Full 2 page report on everything marine......he heh..

Would love an affordable GPS / chart plotter that could interface with digital engine fuel data and calculate mileage.

Sorry guys, virtually no "marine" stuff. Even Garmin doesn't show theirs any more. It will be the land of a thousand tablets and ten thousand TVs. Many smart phones, lots of cameras/camcorders, car electronics, a dose of gaming, acres of accessories. Plus a bunch of OEM and parts guys. So there's my "marine" report and I haven't left for Vegas yet!

Bet the boat on 18 at the roulette wheel George. If ya win I want a sleep over on the new 72' Hat. Make that an 80 as it pays 36 to 1.

If they are there (no need to make a special venue change), check out the Fusion Electronics Audio, specifically the FusionLink. Its not well documented yet but supposed to link your stereo with wifi products (ipad, tablet, etc). Interested in learning more about the connectivity and what might be in store for the near future as products with the "link" capability. Fusions new product (shipping today) is the 700 series (iphone and DVD versions). It is a 4 zone, color display that has the FusionLink. Would be great if Garmin got behind it to allow head unit control via the Garmin head unit. Or even better yet, Garmin to allow consumers to use FusionLink open source to program apps for use on the Garmin.

Yes, Fusion is here; they are in the North hall with all the other mobile electronics guys so i'll try to check them out since I cover that hall as a matter of course.

Skip: Reminds me of my favorite Vegas joke. Better told in person, but here goes.
So I'm walking back into my hotel after a nice long night out, and this guy is standing by the door, not too scruffy looking, but you can kind of feel it coming. Walks up to me and says "sir, you look like an intelligent and empathetic person. We are trying to raise money for my mother who has to have a liver transplant soon or she will die. Could you spare 20, 50 a 100 bucks?" I look at the guy and shoot back, "How would I know it's for your Mom, and that you wouldn't go right through that door and gamble with it?' Guy gets all indignant and huffy. "What kind of man do you take me for? I've GOT gambling money!"

Well Skip, I own a boat and take care of it. I don't HAVE gambling money, and besides, I left the documentation certificate back in NC...

Gee George, didn't mean to get you panties tied up in a wad! Was only a joke!!!!!!!

Cut and paste from my post on another forum.

Went by their booth and spent some time talking with one of their techs. This company really "gets it" when it comes to boats and entertainment electronics. Everyone else's stuff is some form of re-worked car stereo product. Go to their site and check it out. The integration with "i" products and Android is superb, especially if you hook it to a wireless router via ethernet so you can use one as a remote control, they even integrate to NMEA 2000, there is a VHF receiver, and on and on. It is backwards compatible to the 600 (but not the old remotes). I think you'll see this showing up on a lot of big boats with it's four zone capability (and the zones cary labels like "helm", "flybridge", salon if you like.

A lot of you guys may already know this, but I was mostly impressed by how well thought out everything was from a marine perspective. Their new even small straight stereo was impressive as well.

On other fronts, a lot of more weather proofed tablets and phones etc. Fujitsu displayed water proof tablets and phones, demoing them at the bottom of a bowl of water. Panasonic now has a "tough Tablet" to complement their Toughbook laptops.

Sharp showed off the best truly wireless TVs I have seen, they had guys walking around with a 40 incher just to make the point. This will be a godsend on boats.

Anything new from McIntosh, especially anything affordable.....:)
