  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
I am here at the annual CES, the mother of all trade shows. I had meetings all day today, but will get some time to cruise some of the 2 million tightly packed square feet of product in the next couple of days. If there is anything you may be curious about, let me know and I will try to look into it; I am mostly focused on opportunities in cellular-based wireless data, but do have some roots in the TV and audio business. There are easily 10,000 televisions and other display devices aglow here.

Yes I have two!

First the deal with 3D tv Sony is doing it and does anything they are selling right now have the capability of doing 3D when it shows up. I am looking to buy in the next month.

Also what is the deal about wireless tvs's $ blueray players?

Thanks must be a cool show!

Any info on new wifi availability. Also, see if a new product called Bad Boy Wifi is there. It is a new wifi antenna with the booster built into the antenna.

Ok, I'll be should have time to look at TV stuff today. I remember seeing the prototypes for 3D three or four years ago and now it is being shown by several companies. I had to go through the LG booth to get to Intel and Motorola yesterday; they have some cool sets. I really like the trend to thinner units and slimmer bezels, particularly for boats, allowing more screen size for a given space.

I will be spending a lot of my spare time in the wi-fi and general wireless zones, so I should be able to see what's up with antennas, etc.

As a sidenote, I'll be in Vegas next week for the premiums and corporate apparel tradeshow. We'll only have 17,000 attending, so its no CES, but a cool place to find all the newest shirts, hats, coozies, rain gear and logo's boat merchandise.

Let me know if you're looking for something in particular and I'll see what's available.

Re: CES-- the coolest product I have ever seen.

I'll write up a little summation of the show later this week. I'm writing this from the LV airport, so a few quick things.

1) I would not buy a 3D capable TV until this fall when everyone has their units out (vendors are quoting from "spring" to "fall" delivery times.

2) If you have the bucks, get a high definition model that uses the new LED technology and the active shutter glasses. Panasonics's plasma sets are good too. I have been in this biz for 38 years. I have been involved in the purchase and sale of millions of TVs (though not now). Some of my friends in the industry call me the most jaded and indifferent guy to new gizmos they know. They may be right. I don't even like watching TV; high def was no big deal to me. So, let me say this: the high definition 3D LED TVs with the new BlueRay 3D provide the most stunning, beautiful electronic entertainment experience imaginable. I got chills. This is such a quantum leap forward that I cannot come up with enough hyperbole to describe it.

3)There are non-high def formats that use simple polarized glasses which are very cool and will have applications (such as navigation and fish finder systems) beyond TV. But do not confuse them with higher end standard.

I didn't see much on the wi fi signal boost front, but there are some other very significant trends in that area I'll discuss another time.

I saw the showing of the 3d technology at NAB last year along with the technology to make regular TV 3D. I think by this time next year the technology will be ready for prime time with both cost and programing under control.

I have an interest in obtaining HD reception for my Samsung HD TV thru the internet. I seen the "Slingbox" in action and am wondering if there is a way to transfer HD signal to the HD TV with built in HD receiver from my laptop receiving its signal via the slingbox coming from home? Read recently about new ethernet connections between laptop and TV, but seemed to be referencing games only. Anything new (or old) out there? This would of course eliminate Satelite Antenna needs.
