Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
I had my first experience this afternoon having my holding tank emptied. Now that's a job. The marina was great and we kept the mishaps to a slight and I mean slight couple of drops where my son was standing by with a bucket of bleach and water to wash away any left overs. The gentleman at the marina Howard indicated that I should add a toliet solution and flush 5 to six times since I had very little left in the holding tanks. In past threads I was given advice "not to put anything in the head unless I ate it first". Does this rule still hold. Thanks I am really enjoying my 45C fishing and cruising.

We always put a holding tank treatment in after a pumpout, flushed once in each of our three heads. Works great, and you don't have to eat it first.

i pump out every week... no big deal... i could go 2 weeks but i don't wanbt to take chance since i found a pump out at a state park across the bay where i go most weekends... free... just tie up and it's right there... takes 2 minutes... it's actaully easier than doing it at my marina where i have the pump out at the slip but have to go to the office to get the hose and pay $2 :-)

i havent' noticed any difference with or without treatment, although it may be because i pump out so often. I used odorloss for a while, before that i had use the chemical stuff...

what you should do is is add water after pumping out (using an old hose) and then empty again. that help limit the amount of sludge build up in the tank. once i a while I fill up all 3 heads to the rim before pumping out and then flush them all then pump out again. rinses everything... lines, pumps, tank, etc...

Gina Marie, I thought I heard you on the radio coming into Hillsboro Inlet Saturday and Sunday and think I saw you Sunday. Are you local to the SE Florida coast, or was it another Gina Marie?

Re: Another head question???????

When adding the holding tank treatment, do you add straight to the holding tank through the pump out or do you add it throught the heads and then flush it through or does it matter?
Thanks,

I add the holding tank treatment to the head closest to the tank and then flush a couple of times.

We add "Odorlos" treatment to each of the three heads and flush them to the holding tanks. We follow the "amount to use" instructions on the bottle of Odorlos, based on the gallons of the holding tanks, flushing 1/2 the required amount for 100 gal. in the forward and aft heads (2 heads for this tank). The heads and holding tank just don't smell. I was amazed when I had to open up the holding tanks and remove & replace the pumpout tubes that there was no real smell.

what about using rid-x. It is simply a bacteria, bakers yeast. would think that it would help break the stuff down and possibly help on smell. It is safe to use. i use this in my Koi pond, also is used on golf greens.
