One of my 16,000 btu compressors will start up but then cut-off after 3-4 minutes running. I notice that the voltage begins to drop into the 106 range and then the compressor cuts-off. I don't want to keep cycling it and possibly cause damage. Could low freon cause this? These are 1998 units and this particular one has been low on freon before but usually in the Winter time. Thanks.

It could be cutting off because low voltage... Or the compressor is bad and pulls too much.

What does the amp meter show?

is the a/c water pump working...it might be overheating and drawing more voltage and amperage than is available

How about the water intake? Maybe there is growth blocking it.

Almost anything is possible but no or low flow would trigger the high press switch. I ve never seen low voltage caused by low flow

Water pump is working, fan is working. The unit starts up OK but then the compressor starts to cycle cutting off and on. Going to get a tech out this coming week to check amps and freon levels. By the way, this is the Cruisair "split" unit serving the forward and aft staterooms. Thanks for all responses and thoughts.

From a new Hatt owner!!! We were having the same issue cycling Compressor on and off then cutting off...The fix was cleaning the water cooling system as simple as hooking up the dockside water to the compressor water manifold and letting it run for about 10 minutes. We now need a blanket at night in Florida.

Doubt its low freon. Voltage drop could be the problem as you described. Tighten up all your electrical connections. Especially if you dont have any other problems with other units. Without amperage reading on the compressor, hard to say. Could be a weak capacitor too.
