I know some of the members here commit commercial marinating....... (Taking people fishing for money for instance....)

I had a six pack at one time, could get it going again. With the charter rates I see out there, I could, possibly, try to help defray some of the cost of owning a PMY (proper motor yacht) by taking people out for a sunset cocktails and hors d'oeuvres thing.....

Out of curiosity, what would insuring that cost?

I write a lot of marine insurance, there are some carriers that will allow a limited amount (maybe 20) charters annually and rates are not much more then private pleasurecraft

Having a 6 passenger limit is tough on a sunset cruise and drinks cruise. Above that is inspected vessel territory and gets expensive.

I'm sure some will discuss a way around that but it's not a business plan I'd bet on. Loopholes get closed all the time.

I am in the very early stages of considering the same thing, making my boat available for sunset cruises (six pack) to offset some of the cost of owning this thing

I called Boat US who insures me now and they said it's not business they want but they referred me to another company(I don't remember who). Surprisingly the quote was less than what I'm paying Boat US now, I think the reason is I would be employing a captain or simply making my boat available to a charter company who would be assuming a lot of the risk
