Every year before the boat goes in, I had to use buffer/compound to remove the "splash marks" that the A/C discharge leaves on my hull. It used to take a pretty coarse rubbing compound to remove it all.

A friend suggested I try the CLR product. I've used it for other things, but never even thought about using it on the boat!? So.... I tried it today and it removed all the mess with just a bit of elbow grease!

Just an FYI in case anybody else has this issue!

Thanks, sounds like a great tip. Next trip to the boat I'm going to take my CLR. Ron

Thanks, as that is a real problem on our boat. I was going to try oven cleaner as I know that removes painted letering without harming the Imron, but I now will try your proven idea first.:)

Another thing to try...acetone. Works great for removing black streaks from you hull/decks too. But if you have any wax on there, it will strip that off too.

In case I am not the only one who did not know what CLR is, I did a inet search and learned it is "Calcium Lime Remover" and is sold at home imporvement stores such as Lowes.
Regards,
Vincent

haven't tried CLR but i've been impressed by Davis' FSR.

it's a gel you apply with a sponge, let it sit for a few minutes then rinse. Does a great job gettting rid of the ICW mustache, as well as scum marks at the water line. couple of weeks ago I used it on Naomi's Hobie 16 and the hulls went from yeloowish/stained to bright white without scrubbing

the small can was more than enough to do the waterline/mustache of a 70 footer

We get a film like deposit around our AC water outlet. I have wet sanded it away with 1500. That works but is a tough job. When you look at the film it appears to be a coating on top of the shiney paint. I will surely try the CLR trick and report back.

I just did the CLR treatment. Works great, all that buildup is gone and no damage to the Imron. I didn't think it was gonna work at first, but I kept brushing it on wih a foam brush and after ten minutes the film just came off. Thanks for the good tip.:)

We used "On and Off" for our ICW mustache and it worked GREAT with little to no scrubbing- however it is very 'caustic', but didn't seem to hurt the awlgrip. I seem to recall it putting out a pretty initial good fume, but it passed quickly as of course we were outside.
