  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Dennis started an interesting thread which seemed to prompt some worthwhile responses. Jim gave us his opinion and then, for some reason, it became the last word.

What is going on?

The good doctor has been a source of excellent commentary regarding things that are Hatteras, and his personal life regarding Newt's friends was intriguing.

It is OK that his political expressions, are less than compatible to mine. However, why would would he profess to be a Demo, and then the thread is CLOSED.

I do not understand. I am, perhaps, over my limit on posts. In addition to my wife, one of my own "doctor friends" has expressed to me, the question of how some HOFER's have time to make so many posts. Likewise, I have a day job and 3 children in college, and I am sensitive to such comments.

I have read and reread Jim's commentary and those who wrote before him, and after an Old Fashioned and a glass of wine or 2, I was primed to step in. Closing the tread prompts me, at the risk of some sanction to open a new one.

In response, let me state, I attended Catholic school for 5 years, my wife taught at Catholic school for over 20 years, and I paid tuition for our 4 children to attend Catholic school. Our little school is an excellent institution and well worth the tuition and every fund raiser that we either sponsored or attended.

I think it not a good idea for the federal government to subsidize our Catholic education or any other private schools. Nor do I think it a good idea for the feds to mandate to us how to conduct our schools. I think we have done very well without them. I understand that our little school has significantly more National Merit Finalist than the much larger public schools.

Thanks to Republican GWB2, we now have to endure the expense, distraction and damage of "no child left behind". The feds may not pay us, but they mandate how we teach our children.

Let me add that the Newt may talk a fine conservative line, now that it is popular, but my request to his supporters, is to study his track record. To my understanding, he is a BIG Government, conservative, which is no conservative at all. He reminds me of the school professors who were legends in their own minds. It took me a while to get through my share of higher education, and I was duly impressed at the time, but in hindsight, I will stand by the observation, " Those who can't, teach." Subject to the closing of this thread, I invite your learned response.

In the spirit of full disclosure, let me add that I like Ron Paul. I have read / am reading 3 of his books and have attempted to research his past actions. I likewise invite any thought you may have based upon sincere factual analysis.

Yes, this is political, and at this point in time, somewhat important.

Regards,

A moderator adding his opinion then closing the thread did not sit well with me either.

I love the part where Jim shows he has a closed mind too. "I vote Democratic, and plan to do so in the fall". It's almost scary how he seems to have joined the sheeple. Jim I expect better from an educated man.

Vincent, read "Secrets of the Temple". It is the best book on the Fed ever written, and clearly shows how Ron Paul is wacky on his hatred of the Fed.

Without massive Fed intervention for the last few years, we would be in a depression, right now. The Fed is one of the Few functioning entities in DC right now. If people are dumb enough to vote for GB massive tax cuts at the same time as huge war expenses, or Obama massive social programs and continuing GB tax cuts, well you get what we have got: massive debt. That is not the Fed's fault.

Going to gold and silver as the only legal currency removes all ability to operate a modern economy. If it was such a great idea, how come some small wealthy nations have not done it? Because it makes no economic sense at all.

I am sympathetic to Ron Paul's passion for the constitution, but not his central position on the Fed.

As to NEWT, well the man has been the only person to force a budget surplus in modern times, and the only person to force a Republican majority, when even the "leaders" of the Republican party thought it was impossible. He worked with a democratic congress under Reagan, and later a democratic president, to develop economic conditions to cause HUGE economic growth in both situations. What is not to like?

Personally, I like men of action, and IMO NEWT is just about the only hope this nation has at the current time, to get back on track. I believe a five year old as prez could implement sound policies to get this nation booming again, special interest political walls are holding it back. NEWT likes to tear things down, he is who we need at present.

To get back on topic, this thread was started to comment on the fact that a moderator gave his opinion and then promptly closed the same thread to further posts.

As Dave stated, this does not sit well with me either. I understand the reluctance of Sams to entertain a political discussion on their site. I don't agree with it but I do understand. The problem comes when a moderator adds his 2 cents and then closes it to further discussion. If these topics are not allowed, then close it, but don't add your own comments first.

Well, any guy who drives an aluminum body Shelby Cobra, and owns a Hatteras, can't be all bad. <gg>

You are probably right. I wasn't commenting on his personal attributes, just the manner in which this matter was handled. We all make mistakes. I was just hoping some constructive criticism might prevent such actions in the future. Who knows, maybe others don't feel the same way. It's just my opinion.

Well said.

Tempest in a teapot. Not worth worrying about. Worse would be no moderator, or making me the moderator. <: -)

I closed the thread.

It became apparent a long time ago that political discussions can get out of hand quickly and often escalate into heated exchanges which cause my in box to fill quickly.

Sorry.
