  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
Recently changed exhaust manifolds on 8V71TI's and drained coolant. Noticed after coolant sat in a bucket for about 5 days a jelly formed across the top. Have been having cooling problems with this engine at 2100rpms. Have cleaned and dipped the heat exchangers & intercoolers, changed imprellors, etc. Now I'm thinking maybe silicones have built up inside system. Anybody have any suggestons on cleaning solutions for the fresh water side based on experince?

Silicate drop-out.

There is an "offline cleaner" that will likely work. Get it and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY.

I had some unused (new) antifreeze remaining in the original container and noticed some sort of jelly like globules a few weeks ago..it was maybe two years old....so I threw it out. The next container was normal.

This antifreeze was supposedly ok for Detroit Diesels, said so on the label, and I had called the manufacturer a few years earlier to confirm it met DD specs which I was told it did. So this SHOULD be a low silicate formulation.
