I know there was a thread about this but I can not find it. I remember some great suggestions for cleaning electrical cords, if anyone knows or remembers could you let me know. Thanks, John

I remember reading one where after cleaning they recommended applying mop n glo to the cord to keep in nice and shiny. I think they were cleaning it with Simple green or some type of degreaser.

I used Kaboom. I sprayed it on, let it sit for 5 minutes and wiped it off. Cleaned it to a nice new yellow. If it is sun burned I've used finger nail Polish remover and a scotch Brite pad. Funny, but cheap and it works. I like the mop and glo idea but not sure how long it would last in the direct sun.

I read here on the forum to use Mold Armor FG502 Instant Mold and Mildew Stain Remover. DON'T use Mold Armor Mildew Stain Remover Plus Blocker. I followed the directions on the spray bottle. I sprayed the product on and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Before it dried, I took the original "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser" and scrubbed it over where I had sprayed Mold Armor FG502 Instant Mold and Mildew Stain Remover. Then I washed it off with the water hose. The next day after it had dried thoroughly, I sprayed Mold Armor Mold Blocker on and followed the directions.

My cord was so soiled that I thought about getting a new one. My cord is not "like new" but now it looks decent instead of looking like a dirty mess.

Is the Mold Armor FG502 Instant Mold and Mildew Stain Remover safe for vinyl seat cushions?

I use Marine Strip. We call it Jesus Juice cause it works miracles. Just wipe off the grime wait a few minutes to dry before putting back in boat.

I've cleaned cords using mineral spirits and a rag. It seemed to me that might be harsh for the cord material, but it worked well and didn't seem to harm the cords.

Thanks everyone, this site is better than Goggle for information, John

I just purchased 2 new 50' 30 amp power cords and a set of black nylon covers to keep my cords contained and covered.
I had this same arrangement on our last boat and will never go back to leaving my power cords unprotected. The covers I purchased are 25' long each and I got them at West Marine.

You know those so called 25' covers are only 24' long. I bought two myself and have exposed cord. Did you find the same? One comment on cleaning the cords with mineral sports/paint thinner. After it drys it always leaves an oil residue. Be careful mixing electricity and thinner. BOOM

Yes, they are 24' but I do not mind a couple of feet exposed.

I used Mold Armor on my cushions with great success.

Marine Restoration Strip is amazing product! Wont hurt the cord and turns it back to new with very little work! Spray it with some Obex mildew spray after cleaning every six months and you will never get a spec of mildew on it, or anything else you spray Obex on for that matter!! Also an amazing product! I spray everything in the forward dock box's with Obex here in south FL and after being closed up all summer not a speck of mildew on anything!!! http://www.thinkobex.com/about.htm
You can order Restoration Strip by calling 800-752-3511.....in fact I think I'm on my last can of it. It also works wonders on fenders, seat cushions etc!
