I know its tough to focus on any subject not related to Wacko Jacko, but let me try one. From other discussions of Chinese boats, I started thinking about the quality of Chinese products in general. Then I realized, boats are an anomaly. When it comes to big ticket adult toys, boats are the only item the Chinese have produced for the US consumer. I would speculate that no one on this forum drives a luxury Chinese auto, no one flies a personal aircraft made in China, and no one has a high end RV built in China. Why would they choose boats. The only reason I can speculate is that boats have the fewest US government regulations. Aside from the fundamental Coast Guard regulations, and EPA exhaust emission standards, you can build most anything you want and sell it as a boat. Same holds true when built in the US, you need a permit to build a house, but none to build a boat. US boat manufacturers have very successfully fought off government regulation of their industry. Have they also enabled the Chinese to eat their lunch?

Machine tools started in Taiwain now it's China. At first the quality was bad now it's not. Same as boats they started in Taiwain now more and more China and the quality gets better and better. Along with furniture and lots of other stuff Chinese cars will be coming in the near future.

Some of the best violins now being made in the world are from China. Seems really strange but it is true. I suspect China is repeating the same scenario as Japan...making stuff that was truly junk and then, over time, making stuff that is considered very good. And then, over MORE time, having to have their products made in some other country.

As a devils adviocate here I ask where do you draw the line between US supported Tiawan and China.Marine Trader is the thing that I'm talking about. When Bren and I started looking at Trawler type boats we saw a nice to us Tradewinds and my Hatt edumacatification here says that they were built at many yards and the QA is all over the place.Does this apply to other makes?Robby
