The Ashley River Marina sits right next to the Charleston City Marina, has new docks, new restrooms (all mahogany if you can believe that), and is walking distance to Salty Mikes and the old section. The slip rates are a little less than the "City" Marina - at least the last time I checked. AM has more of a yacht club environment.

We've stayed at Ashley (now called the Harborage at Ashley Marina) (
http://www.theharborageatashleymarina.com/index-3.1.html) nearly every time we've run from FL to Great Lakes. Our opinion was that it was good for many years. This year, however, we stayed there twice (running N & returning). First time, we thought we'd just hit them on an "off" couple of days. Last time, we decided that their going "Dockominium" has not done much for the service. Used to have a fairly complete ship's store, this year, there was none. Always provided transportation around town, but this year on both trips, we found it difficult finding someone to drive during the times when transportation was scheduled, and we were ready to go. Got similar reviews from other crews we talked to. Opinions were that "City" might now be better. We've tried Patriot's Point, but it is a long way from downtown...however, it's good if you want to tour the museum ships. We were happy with it when we stayed there. Long walk from the slips to the parking lot. Hope this helps. No matter where you stay, Charleston is a great place to spend as much time as you have to spare |

Happy Holidays to all!
