Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Looking for advice for reasonably priced marinas/boatyards in the Charleston area for my 53 Hatteras MY - hoping to store the boat there for the rest of the winter/spring.

The Ashley River Marina sits right next to the Charleston City Marina, has new docks, new restrooms (all mahogany if you can believe that), and is walking distance to Salty Mikes and the old section. The slip rates are a little less than the "City" Marina - at least the last time I checked. AM has more of a yacht club environment.

Re. Isle of Palm, had disappointments on layover last Summer.

Good luck, and happy holidays!

We've stayed at Ashley (now called the Harborage at Ashley Marina) (http://www.theharborageatashleymarina.com/index-3.1.html) nearly every time we've run from FL to Great Lakes. Our opinion was that it was good for many years. This year, however, we stayed there twice (running N & returning). First time, we thought we'd just hit them on an "off" couple of days. Last time, we decided that their going "Dockominium" has not done much for the service. Used to have a fairly complete ship's store, this year, there was none. Always provided transportation around town, but this year on both trips, we found it difficult finding someone to drive during the times when transportation was scheduled, and we were ready to go. Got similar reviews from other crews we talked to. Opinions were that "City" might now be better. We've tried Patriot's Point, but it is a long way from downtown...however, it's good if you want to tour the museum ships. We were happy with it when we stayed there. Long walk from the slips to the parking lot. Hope this helps. No matter where you stay, Charleston is a great place to spend as much time as you have to spare |:-).

Happy Holidays to all!

Ripley Light Marina, has several 60' Slips for appx. $12.00 per foot. These are very convenient slips and about 20 paces from the parking lot. The number to call is usually listed in the local paper; however, if you don't have access, I'll try to get the number for you. My boat is appx. 6 slips away.

PS Stay AWAY from the boat yards, if at all possible...

Is there a slip for a 93 X 32 X 14 tugboat in there? As the job pays out in January Ill let you guys know and maybe hold a winter RONDAYVOO. ws

I'm sure there is! And you'll never have to worry about it icing over (running aground maybe, but no ice). :D

I think you'll have to "beg" for a crew but I'm sure we can round up something. You buy the beer of course. Bring it on!

"We've stayed at Ashley (now called the Harborage at Ashley Marina)"

They have just gone through a complete makeover and I gather that in the process, unfortunately, some boaters were less than satisfied. We have tied up at AM twice this year and have been well pleased. The last time was in November and I have no doubt that they have their act together.

BTW, while it is now a "dockaminium/yacht club" they have some 600+ feet of transient dockage.

(They can even handle a 93' tug - that is if you can get it there! :D ).
