  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Have one 34 year old bronze seacock feeding my rear generator- works great , not pink. I had planned on changing simply due to age, but is it necessary since I doubt the new replacements thruhulls are as good. Who's still running 80's thruhulls?

I have a few of the oldies (1978) still in use.
They are not pink and work very well.

Many years ago we did replace a few sea-cocks.
The valves were still heavy-duty and working well but the wood backing plates were dissolving away and leaking green water. Replacing these backing plates involved damaging these still good sea-cocks so they were replaced.

A close inspection of your handle, plugs, screws, nuts and backing plate can help answer your question.
Just because it may have some age on it does not make it old or beyond service.

To tell ya the truth, I'm not to impressed with any of the new stuff. No failures but diffidently lighter and thinner than the mature equipment.

Final thought, Has your surveyor made any comments on it?
If he has,,,, it has to go.

Mine are 50 years old and I am replacing the engine intake valves and thru hulls next month. I was able to get the original brand that Hatteras used from Sam’s for about 10 per cent more than I could get new Groco valves so I went that route. Mine are 2 1/2 inch and they are really heavy so I hope that means they are made as good as the originals.

Mine had the 3 screw pattern bolting the whole sea-cock down.
Even though the new assemblies were from the same mfg, the hole pattern was different.
Hopefully, in purchasing your original sea-cocks from Sam's, your screw pattern will be the same.
Don't forget new (real) bronze screws, washers and nuts.
AND fresh bonding leads.

I replaced all of our seacocks when we were in the yard a year ago . I used Groco and went from 3/4 to one inch . These can be greased with a Groco grease that has anti fouling also . Replaced the main engine seacocks also . Sam’s has the thru hulls that they have a foundry make . One of the reasons to support Sam’s . I peeled the bottom at this time also . Peeled twice , dried for eight months , then sanded, two layers of 1708 and seventy five gallons of epoxy . Then 4 barrier coats of Petit Protect and three coats of bottom paint . Much more was done also .
