  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
Does anyone know what this is? It appears to have been built to very specific specs. It's weird in the fact it has a radar arch, a lower helm, and an extended cockpit you could Square Dance in. Appears to have a lot boxes and cockpit freezer space, Gyro, Good power. Just looks very purpose built for extended fishing trips. The Cockpit looks like 250+ Square feet. Obviously it's a carolina boat but I'm not sure who, I can't pick up on the lines good enough to be sure.

Also, the way some of the finishing touches are completed like the Flybridge Wet Bar it looks like it may have been started by a builder and finished out by someone else, possibly the owner. I know of a few people who have purchase an unfinished Carolina Hull, deck, and bridge with the motors in it and took it some where else to complete it. I would bet that's the case here, that someone had the boat built and roughed in, then finished later.

Any Thoughts?

Tony

Made by the erstwhile Carolina Yacht Enterprises out of Wanchese, who are being sued, by, I think, but am not sure, the owner of this boat. You might post this on the Hull Truth boating or Carolinas section there is usually someone who knows the gory details on the boat business around here.

I know the listing broker Scott, he is a client of mine and just got me into my hatteras in August

It's a northern boat. That teak would be a deal breaker in florida.

I just looked up the US court civil case, and indeed it was about this boat for defective construction. You can see the original contract and specs in the docket as well as the complaint. It was remanded to state court, so don't know how it turned out, but Richie Howell ended up filing Ch 13 while it was still in US court. Original contract was for 1.6mil, and owner alleges he spent another 500k fitting it out. Then you have whatever Direktor charged for the extension. But with the history, and the builder out of business, the seller will have some 'splainin to do, that's for sure.

If anyone's interested I can email you the court docs referenced above.

This is why it's important to buy a custom boat from a yard with long standing management. Yards and boat names are only as good as the people who build them.

This is not the only one which has had problems in the past 4 to 6 years. three million dollar boats being sold for one million. There was a time when the builders were packed to the gills . People with a few bucks got the boat started and sold them before completed. Excess money boys did not have to wait in line. Some got stuck with debt and half finished boats could not afford eather one. It was a mess for a lot of the back yard guys.

Next generation Cape May (Dan Guss/Martin Dipper) bluefish charter boat.
