I have 6v92's in my 45C and if any one has this vessel with these engines room is not one of its better qualities. I was told that I can eliminate from the aft side of these engines my oil coolers and install oil coolers in the front side of the engines( there is a spot already built into these engines I was told) If that is so is the only modification buying longer oil pressure hoses and appox. what is the cost of this new oil coolers.

Will this effect the engines overall performance and what would be the down side.

Thanks Gina Marie/Tom

My 6v92s use the integral gear coolers while I have seen others with the gear cooler aft where the intake water enters. Maybe this is what they are talking about.

I have talked to Covington about this and their advice was "don't" - they said that the cooling capacity in the H/E tank is marginal for the gears and you may cook them, which is why they put the other cooler in there.

Its a crap place for the cooler tho - on the suction side of the pump - and causes problems with the rest of the system. Were I inclined to replace it I'd see if Sendure has a combined gear/fuel cooler to put where the fuel cooler is now, and put it THERE. That'd be in the right place and would fix the problem.

It won't be cheap tho.

If/when Gigabite's gear or fuel coolers started leaking that was what I intended to do.

Thanks guys I guess I will live with what I have.

Tom, I don't know if this will help, but Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine in CA has takeoff fuel coolers from Cummins M11 engines which are pretty large and might do the fuel-cooling part of what you need. They are not expensive. If that helps at all....they are new parts and he usually has a few around.
